It’s always really confused me that on “Random Rules”, Berman sings, ”I asked the painter why the roads are coloured black / He said ‘Steve it’s because people leave and no highway will bring them back.’” Why Steve and not Dave? Is the painter being a dick and talking through Malkmus? Why isn’t there a RapGenius for rock songs?
