Episode 3 of HBO’s “The Newsroom” is deeper, broader and better than the two previous installments. (And I thought the first two were excellent.) I wasn’t sure before — I had my doubts — but this latest in the on-going series convinced me:
“The Newsroom” is important television, the closest we’ve had to “must-see TV” in recent years.

Dan Rather on The Newsroom’s third episode.
I don’t know what’s worse: The Newsroom or Dan Rather’s effusive recaps. So far every episode is better than the last and the only thing wrong with it is that Will McAvoy smokes. Good lord. I love how he artificially inflates the tension though. “I had my doubts”! I’m on the edge of my seat wondering whether next week’s episode will be “phenomenal” or merely “excellent.”
