This seems a little late but I just saw Tom Scocca’s article about the infuriating use of Don Draper as a worthless metaphor used by hack journalists and I get the feeling that a lot of the disagreement comes from folks taking to heart the “I don’t watch Mad Men and I don’t care to” parts at the expense of the “Some writers are bad and they should feel bad” parts. I love Mad Men too but Scocca demonstrates some really vapid ways in which writers use Mad Men in unnecessary contexts and maybe not taking his distaste for the show so personally would allow the dissenters to see that he made his point really well.
